saturday was
PROJECT RED CROSS LOVE:)
reported at 8.22am at Global Indian International School!
haha!
the name so cute right!
got "global" and "international" tgt! xP
at first i felt quite slack and ya cause i had to sit next to the sound system which obviously i could not be of any help... hmm.
but it was till the lucky draw and helping the elderly etc etc that made me feel useful and helped me to gain new things.
i was helping a few of the elderly to scream and yell their lucky draw numbers la!!
SO MUCH SO that the emcee said that "the cadet" (she was refering to me but not using the right term, it should be "volunteer") is even happier than the elderly.
HEHE.
anw right.. i was really hoping the few elderly around me would win!
they were TOTALLY in anticipation for each of the gifts.
one interesting thing was the emcee got us to guess a few nos. and i was right in my guess!
HAHAH!
"0..0..?"- 002!
"a very nice number"- 168
"very close to the number"- 169
but the point is in the last two egs mentioned.
when the emcee announced "168" the old uncle next to me who SUPER disappointed.
and guess what i told him!!
"don't worry, your 169 is just one step away from 168" (*and i took a step forward*)
and he smiled at me ci-xiang-ly
and the next number was 169 really!!!
he was UBER happy man!!!
5th prize!!
okay another thing that touched me was when i helped the old uncle carry his things and prizes back home..
his whole block was meant for old people.
so the whole big group of them went back together after the event,
and there was a horrible congestion,
MADE WORSE by the bad eyesight each of them had.
it was really bad (i meant the situation- congestion)
firstly they had really HEAVY GOODIE BAGS
secondly they could not press the CORRECT FLOOR
thirdly the LIFT DID NOT STOP AT EVERY FLOOR
fourthly the people who were ALREADY AT THE WRONG FLOORS COULD NOT DIFFERENTIATE BTWN THE 'UP' AND 'DOWN' BUTTONS
yes, it was that bad.
so you can roughly estimate how long i waited for the lift with that uncle,
then at a "nth floor" help another old aunite who almost lost her key plus could not find the "key hole" of the door....
i took a long time to get back to the school for debrief!
>>sorry guys for waiting for me!
lastly the heart warming part...
the uncle kept saying thankyou to me for helping him win the fan that he need not buy anymore..
he emphasized it so much that i also paiseh cause i merely shouted on his behalf..
it was because he was lucky:)
next the auntie was also super grateful with my help until i felt very bad cause what i could do was only minimal..
the one thing i felt accomplished was that i could say "God bless you" to each of them at the end=D
i think that the metallic lift buttons with the dim red lights don't work man!
esp in areas like mei ling street etc etc where there are lots of old people..
would numbers in print and bolded and large fonts be more effective?
maybe HDB can consider that since SG's facing an aging population as well?
hmmm.
alright let me end of with one of my thoughts that day..
the problem the lift buttons have generated has allowed me to make a pretty convincing inference that you know, elderly can get lost in their blocks as well. (that is if you know what happens when you press "UP" instead of "DOWN" or vice versa PLUS get the wrong floor)
